This facility was built for Port Authority in Murmansk, Russia for storage of the apatite mineral mined inland. Murmansk is located above the arctic circle so the three Monolithic Domes were built to last through severe weather including very low temperatures.

Company:

The Port Authority needed a place to store the mineral apatite that
was mined inland. Trucks will bring down the mineral and store it in
these three MonololithicTM domes. Boats would then come and ship
the apatite all over the world. This Port Authority in Murmansk is
the only one open all year around.

Facilities:

The domes, processes, and systems were designed to included
an elevated rail unloading station capable of unloading four 100
ton cars at a time. The material conveyed at a rate of 1,200 TPH
includes Diamonium Phosphate, Ammonium Nitrate, and other
fertilizer ingredients weighing 50-70 lbs. per cu. ft.

Process:

After the material is unloaded it is conveyed by belt to one of three
15,000 ton concrete MonolithicTM Dome Storage Buildings, or directly to ships. Reclaim Tunnels are located through each storage Dome and the entire facility is enclosed for protection against the severe climate. Temperatures often drop as low as –35 degrees centigrade and the Domes are able to preserve the material.

Randy South of South Industries moved with his family to Murmansk and lived there for four and a half months to initialize the project.

Capacity:

45,000 tons of material each

Sizes:

182 ft x 65 ft each

Storage:

Apatite and other minerals
