Project Profile
Keith and Sylvia Wortman
Keith and Sylvia Wortman from Colorado began constructing their MonolithicTM Dome home in July of 2008 and will be moved in by March of 2010.
Research:
Keith Wortman dreamed of a dome home before he even knew the
technology was invented. When he visited Emmet, Idaho and saw
their new Monolithic Dome school, he knew he had found the right
technology for his dream home.
Construction:
“Everything about the construction [of the domes] impressed me. I
could physically see my dream coming true after 30 years!”
The Wortman’s have a ten acre piece of land in Fairplay, CO. They
wanted to nestle their house in between the old Bristlecone Pine
trees on their property. Even with three domes being constructed,
only two small trees had to be transplanted. In less than two
months of arriving, the dome was completed. The vast majority of
the construction has been interior. The home has a living area of
4000 square feet. A master suite is the largest of the five bedrooms.
The others include two guest rooms and two hobby rooms — one
for Sylvia’s sewing and one for Keith’s photography.
Reaction:
Over 400 people have come from all over the country to see the
Wortman’s home. Keith plans on featuring their dome home in
Extreme Homes, HG TV and any other publicity he can get.
“I plan on our home being a place for people to come, relax, enjoy
and experience the power of a dream. I feel that this home will
bring a strong sense of being to the town of Fairplay.”
